Neck Lift in Houston, TX
About Neck Lift Surgery
As we age, the skin, muscles, and ligaments in the neck area begin to lose their elasticity, creating a “double chin” or “turkey neck.” Weight loss can also produce sagging skin in the neck area. Regardless of the cause, Dr. Derek Lou, a fellowship-trained and American board-certified cosmetic surgeon, can help you reach your goals via a neck lift procedure in Houston, TX.
The neck lift procedure is performed by plastic surgeons to remove excess skin and fat cells while re-contouring the area beneath the chin. Sagging tissues are raised and underlying neck muscles are tightened. Neck lift, also referred to as neck rejuvenation, neck contouring, or neck liposuction surgery is designed to restore a higher neckline and youthful shape. This neck lift procedure at our Houston clinic can be performed on its own, or combined with a face lift, brow lift, or eyelid procedure.
A cosmetic neck procedure will give you a smoother, natural-looking neckline and youthful appearance. If you are at a healthy weight yet struggle with sagging skin and neck wrinkles, neck lift surgery is what you’re looking for!
Techniques Used During Neck Lift Procedures
Patients are given general anesthesia, local anesthesia, or intravenous sedation during cosmetic neck surgery. At your initial consultation, you can speak with our cosmetic surgeon in Houston regarding anesthesia options, previous surgeries and any medical conditions you might have.
This surgical procedure usually lasts from two to four hours, with neck contouring being one of the most common surgical techniques. Dr. Lou would first perform liposuction, however, to remove excess fat in the neck and chin. He then makes an incision behind each ear and under the chin. Afterward, the excess neck skin is removed and the neck muscles, underlying tissues, and remaining skin are pulled tight until the appropriate contour is achieved.
To further improve results from a neck lift procedure at our Houston location, some patients opt for a nonsurgical fat reduction injection, such as Kybella. Others choose to add surface level treatments such as laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels.
“I Trust Him Implicitly - Doctor Lou is wonderful and a brilliant doctor, always so happy with the results and his bedside manner!!!”
Neck Lift FAQs
How much does an elective cosmetic surgery like this cost?
The surgical technique used in addition to the amount of excess neck skin will determine your cosmetic surgery costs. After learning about your goals and creating your treatment plan, Dr. Lou can provide an estimate. Lou Plastic Surgery accepts several payment methods including low-interest medical financing to make your plastic surgery more affordable.
What is the healing process like after undergoing a neck lift procedure? How long is the recovery time?
An overnight stay is not typically required following neck lift surgery. You are encouraged to avoid strenuous lifting or active exercise for about three weeks following your neck lift. Most patients can expect to resume daily activities by the third week. It’s common to experience bruising, swelling, and discomfort after a neck lift procedure. Following stitch removal, you can perform prescribed neck exercises on an outpatient basis. Medication will be prescribed to reduce pain and swelling. At the first sign of a fever or unusual discharge from the surgical site, contact Dr. Lou and your primary doctor immediately.
To avoid aggravating the area, loose-fitting and/or buttoned shirts should be worn. Neck lifts are said to have a dramatic impact on improving the facial profile. You will begin to see positive results in the first few weeks with results becoming more clear as swelling decreases. The neck contour will continue to improve gradually over time as collagen remodeling occurs for about 8 to 12 months following neck lift surgery.
What kind of neck lift surgery do I need? Are there additional procedures I should consider?
You may be considering both neck contouring and liposuction. If there is both loose skin and excess fat, neck liposuction and a lift might be the best decision. Upon sharing your cosmetic goals with Dr. Lou, he will create an individualized plan that addresses your needs. Many patients choose to receive a facelift or chin augmentation alongside their neck lift. These procedures address the face and jaw line, and can be performed together in order to provide a more complete rejuvenation of the face, neck, and chin.
Will this procedure leave visible scars on my face and neck?
During a neck lift procedure at our clinic in Houston, a small incision is placed under the chin and close to each ear.
As a cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Lou aims to keep visible scars at a minimum when performing neck lift procedures. Although sutures are used on the incisions, scarring will not be very visible since they are placed in hidden areas under the chin and ear. Prior to discharge, you will receive detailed instructions on scar management to reduce scar visibility and promote skin healing.
I'm not sure about surgical procedures. Are there options that don’t require surgery?
While there are skin-tightening procedures that do not require surgery, the results are usually mild. Kybella is a minimally invasive treatment that targets the “double chin” area of the neck. However, this procedure doesn’t involve removing excess skin. The best way to eliminate a sagging neck and extra skin, especially if it droops or hangs, is by having neck lift surgery. A non-surgical neck lift might be something to consider if your neck skin is wrinkled, but not sagging.
