PRP Therapy in Houston, TX
About Facial PRP Therapy
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Derek Lou is pleased to offer platelet-rich plasma therapy, also called PRP, at LouMD Med Spa in Houston, TX to help rejuvenate your facial appearance. PRP therapy is one of the hottest cosmetic treatments on the aesthetic market due to its natural origin and promising results. It uses a patient's very own plasma to stimulate the skin, decreasing the prevalence of fine lines and wrinkles. PRP therapy is also sometimes performed in conjunction with microneedling for the popular vampire facial. If you are interested in PRP therapy, call LouMD Med Spa in Houston, TX to schedule a private consultation. Dr. Lou will be happy to discuss the benefits of PRP, as well as what it can do for your skin.
Ideal Candidates
Those with deep wrinkles, volume loss, uneven skin tone, and droopy skin are usually ideal candidates for PRP therapy. Since it promotes collagen production naturally, it's also a great treatment choice if you have tired or dull-looking skin. Talk to Dr. Lou about any skin conditions, blood disorders, or anemia to ensure that it's safe for you to undergo PRP therapy.
Procedure Technique
After you're comfortably seated in one of our secluded minor procedure areas, a small amount of blood will be drawn from one of your arms and put into a centrifuge machine. Typically, we draw around four tablespoons or one vial of blood. After approximately 15 minutes on the centrifuge machine, the components of the blood will separate and are then ready to be injected. We will load your concentrated plasma into a syringe and inject it into the designated areas of the face. The PRP procedure typically only takes about five minutes, but this will vary in each patient.
What to Expect
Plasma from PRP therapy naturally promotes collagen production and elastin to reveal tighter and younger-appearing skin. Since it uses your own blood, there is no risk of allergic or adverse reactions. You can expect your face to be a little red following treatment as some traces of red blood cells will be included in the injection. Cold packs can be used on the injection site to ease any discomfort and swelling. Dr. Lou recommends you undergo treatments in 4 – 6-week intervals to maintain results.
Facial PRP FAQs
How much does PRP therapy cost?
The cost of PRP therapy will be dependent on the area being treated and if it is combined with another cosmetic procedure. Dr. Lou will come up with an estimated cost during your initial consultation and discuss all your payment options.
How long do results from PRP therapy last?
PRP therapy has been known to last for 4 – 8 weeks. The longevity of the results will vary with each patient and will depend on the area being treated. The benefit of this procedure is that it does not require surgery or significant downtime and is more affordable.
What are the risks and complications of PRP therapy?
The risks for PRP by itself are extremely minor and include only prolonged bruising and swelling. However, when combined with microneedling, potential risks may include infection, mild scarring, pigment changes, and delayed healing. That's why it's important to have microneedling done by a skilled cosmetic surgeon who is highly experienced with the process.
Will PRP help replenish volume?
PRP therapy cannot increase volume in areas, like your cheeks and lips. Although PRP therapy offers stunning results since it rejuvenates the appearance of the skin and helps promote collagen and elastin, it will not replenish volume. If you wish to contour certain areas on the face that have lost volume, then dermal fillers may be a better treatment choice for you.
Is PRP therapy painful?
PRP injections feel similar to a dermal filler or BOTOX injection with the additional step of the plasma extraction. Typically, most patients will feel a mild pinch or pressure at the time of injection. If you are concerned about pain or discomfort, ask about including local anesthesia during your consultation.
